Geography
Turkey and the EU
Turkey has close ties to Europe (as well as the Middle East and Asia). It is a member of the European Customs Union and European Accession talks have started. To join the EU, there are a wide range of issues to be addressed - some easier than others - and membership will need to be unanimously agreed by member states. In reality, membership will be unlikely before 2017.
